The University of Nicosia is pleased to announce eight (8) new PhD positions in the PhD Programme in Education Sciences for Spring 2027.

This programme is offered in English.

We welcome applications from motivated candidates who are eager to pursue advanced research and make a meaningful contribution to the field of education. This demanding and research-focused doctoral programme supports the development of independent researchers equipped to advance knowledge, inform practice, and contribute to educational innovation. It is ideal for candidates who wish to pursue a career in academia but is also appropriate for those who would like to advance their careers in the field of education in general.

Profile of the programme

The PhD programme in Education Sciences is a rigorous and research-intensive doctoral programme designed for candidates who wish to make a substantial contribution to educational knowledge, theory, and practice. The programme is particularly well suited to those intending to pursue an academic career, while also offering strong preparation for professional advancement in educational leadership, policy, research, and related sectors.

Students may begin the programme in the Spring semester of 2027. Upon admission, each doctoral student is appointed a three-member supervisory team consisting of one primary supervisor and two secondary supervisors. This team supports the student throughout the doctoral journey, offering academic guidance and feedback at each stage. Regular progress reviews are conducted to help students maintain steady progress and receive the support required for successful completion of the degree. Students are expected to remain in close contact with their supervisors throughout their studies.

During the first year, PhD students are required to complete two advanced research methods courses which aim to prepare them for the design and development of their dissertation. After successfully completing their coursework, students will develop and submit a full research proposal of approximately 7,500 to 10,000 words. This document presents the planned study in detail, including its research focus, theoretical grounding, expected contribution, and proposed methodology. Once the proposal has been approved by the relevant committee, students proceed to the main research phase and the writing of their doctoral thesis. The final thesis is typically around 80,000 words in length.
