UNIC to host 8th International Symposium on Service-Learning (ISSL), June 2022
The 8th International Symposium on Service-Learning (ISSL) will take place on 8-11 June 2022, at the University of Nicosia. ISSL 2022 is co-organised by the University of Nicosia, the University of Indianapolis, and Stellenbosch University. It fosters the largest network on Service-Learning, which focuses primarily on transitions in higher education and the role that critical service-learning plays in social transformation.
Service-Learning is a teaching approach that connects student learning to the needs of the community. In our quest to contribute to Service-Learning as a transformative pedagogy, the 8th Symposium on “Critical Service-Learning Across the Globe: Transforming Teaching into Social Action” will primarily focus on issues pertaining to the current theoretical perspectives in Higher Education and how collaborative research and curriculum design can enhance Service-Learning societal impact, as well as on what the new ethical goals and challenges of Service-Learning are in 21st Century Higher Education.
Participants to ISSL 2022 will have the opportunity to:
- share their work with a vibrant community of scholars specialising in the field
- network and meet people from other countries
- exchange views and engage in diverse activities, acquiring hands-on experience in serving the community
