The Department of History and Philosophy of Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens organizes and offers the Program of Graduate Studies MA in “Contemporary Philosophy / Philosophy of Science”.
The program offers students a solid background in the study of Contemporary Philosophy, delivers an advanced introduction to Philosophy of Science, and teaches the intellectual skills required for engaging with issues which occupy current research into the perennial problems of philosophy.
The MA aims to familiarize the students with the major schools of thought in contemporary philosophy, both analytic and continental, and to offer high-level training in the different fields of philosophical research. By the end of their studies, graduates are expected to be able to conduct independent and collaborative research, meeting all requirements for pursuing doctoral studies.
This Program leads to Master's degree (MA) in “Contemporary Philosophy / Philosophy of Science” after successful completion of the studies based on the curriculum.
Applicants
The Program admits holders of degree from cycle A studies, from all Departments of Greek universities, or from equivalent foreign institutions, recognized by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition Information Center (NARIC, ΔΟΑΤΑΠ).
Structure
The present Call concerns the admission of a maximum of thirty (30) students (academic year: 2024-2025). Over the course of their studies, students will be expected to successfully complete six (6) courses plus a thesis. The courses will be taught in English.
Duration
The duration of the program is one year, including the time required for preparing and supporting the thesis. The possibility of part-time study is also provided.
Cost
The Master Program of “Contemporary Philosophy / Philosophy of Science” is self-financed and the total cost for each student amounts to 2.700,00 € for the entire duration of the program (1.350,00 € per semester).
This fee may be waived for up to 30% of the students, based on economic criteria, according to the relevant law (N. 4485/2017). Eligible students are native students only.

Applicants should submit the following documents to Program’s secretariat:
1. Application form (downloaded from here)
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Copy of University Degree(s), or a Certificate of Completion of Studies
4. Copy of Transcript of Records, listing the grades of courses attended.
5. A clear photocopy of national Identity Document (ID) card or Passport which will be valid for at least three months from the date of your registration.
6. Certificate of competency in English (not required for native speakers): ITOEFL, or IELTS, or First Certificate in English (FCE): B2
7. Sample of Writing 3.000-5.000 words
8. Letter of Expression of Interest up to 400 words, outlining the student’s motivation for attending an MA course in Contemporary Philosophy or Philosophy of Science
9. One (1) recommendation letter
