During the academic year 2025-2026, the Law School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens will offer an intensive LL.M. Programme in International & European Legal Studies. Interested candidates are invited to submit their application as follows:

Description

The LL.M. Programme in International and European Legal Studies (IELS) provides students with an advanced and in-depth study in the European and international aspects of private law, as well as the economic, social and political factors that drive its development. This LL.M. seeks to provide students with a solid doctrinal and practical background which shall allow them to successfully cope with the ever-demanding academic environment, while developing their careers at the highest level of national and international practice.

Students will also benefit from the strong network and various academic activities of the European Law School Network, which consists of 8 capital city universities, the National and Kapodistrian of Athens, the Humboldt Universität in Berlin, King’s College London, Paris 2 (Panthéon-Assas), La Sapienza University in Rome, the University of Amsterdam, the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

The LL.M. programme offers two (2) specializations:

A. European Private Law

B. Private Law & Business Transactions

The coursework is divided into two semesters (winter and spring), and students are obliged to submit a dissertation by 30 September 2026.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for admission, prospective students must:

  1. Hold a first Degree in Law from a Greek or Foreign Higher Educational Institute which belongs to Hellenic NARIC registers (https://www.doatap.gr/home_english/) Students in their final year of studies may instead submit an official document by their University certifying that they are currently enrolled students in their senior year. Candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies but are waiting their official diploma to be issued may also submit an official certificate by their University attesting the date of successful completion of their studies.
  2. Hold at least a C1 level certificate in English. Candidates with a degree entirely taught in English are exempted. Knowledge of additional languages (French or German) is encouraged and taken into consideration.

Selection procedure

A maximum of twenty-five (25) students per specialization will be admitted. The Admissions Committee will assess the applications on the basis of each candidate’s academic merits. Prospective students will be invited in groups (according to the date of their application) to online interviews in English in dates that will be set and announced on the official websites of Athens Law School Postgraduate Studies and on the LL.M. IELS website: https://iels.law.uoa.gr/.

In any case, the online interviews will be completed by 30 June 2025.

Tuition fees

The tuition fee amounts to €2200.

How to apply

Applicants are encouraged to consult the website of the LL.M. Programme https://iels.law.uoa.gr/ which provides information on admission requirements, the application procedure, tuition fees and visa requirements.

The application period for the academic year 2025-2026 starts on Saturday 21th December 2024 and ends on Sunday 15th June 2025.

Applicants who need a visa are strongly advised to apply until 1 March 2025.

Applicants from EU are strongly advised to apply until 1 May 2025.

Each applicant is invited to fill in the Application form (see Annex 1) and submit it with all relevant documentation to pms@law.uoa.gr.

Each applicant may apply for a maximum of two LL.M. courses, which may belong to the same or different LL.M. programmes offered by the Athens Law School.

Required supporting documents

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. A full academic transcript of records of bachelor’s degree. Students in their last year of studies should provide an official transcript for all completed semesters to the date of the application.
  3. Master’s Degree accompanied by a full academic transcript of records (if applicable).
  4. Proof of at least a C1 level certificate of the English language proficiency in English as per the language requirements or a statement indicating that they wish to be examined in English by a member of the academic staff.
  5. Proof of knowledge in German and/or French or a statement indicating that they wish to be examined in these languages by a member of the academic staff (if applicable).
  6. ID card or Copy of passport (only for international students)
  7. A curriculum vitae (CV) of no more than 2 pages in English.
  8. Motivation Letter: A personal statement of max. 400 words outlining their academic achievements and ambitions and underlying their motivation to attend the relevant LL.M Course.
  9. Official Certificate of Employment (only for judges).
