Information for application to the Postgraduate Programs of the Physics Department, University of Crete, for the academic year 2024-2025

The Department of Physics of the University of Crete announces that it is accepting applications for the admission of students for the academic year 2024-2025, to the Department's Postgraduate Programs:

• Advanced Physics (duration 12 months)
• Photonics and Nanoelectronics (duration 18 months)

The deadline for submitting applications, and all supporting documents, is July 15, 2024. The Postgraduate Programs cover a wide range of topics in fundamental Physics and cutting edge interdisciplinary areas. The Programs aim to attract excellent, highly motivated students interested to specialize in topics of modern Physics, and equip them for a dynamic career in physics research and its applications.

Submission of application and supporting documents
The application and supporting documents can only be submitted online through the website: https://postgrad.cict.uoc.gr

Candidates should (a) create a user account, (b) edit their application, filling in the corresponding fields on the website and uploading the necessary files, and (c) make the final submission, before the deadline of July the 15th, 2024.

The M.S. courses are taught in English and the M.S. Thesis is required to be written in English.

Application Material:

1. Application form.
2. A short essay (maximum 2 pages), in which the candidate briefly describes: (a) the scientific interests of the candidate that led them to choose this Master's Program; (b) their relevant knowledge and experience from courses, thesis or diploma work, laboratory or research work, and (c) their current envisioned career goals, after successful completion of the Master's Program.
3. Copy of undergraduate degree or certificate of completion of degree requirements. The Postgraduate Programs welcome first cycle graduates from Greek Universities or similar institutions abroad, holding degrees in Physical Sciences or Engineering.
4. Detailed course transcript with grade point average.
5. Certification of sufficient knowledge of the English language (level B2 or higher).
6. One passport photo.
7. Two (2) letters of recommendation from professors or researchers who are familiar with the candidate in their undergraduate studies and potential research activities. The letters should be sent directly to the secretariat (not sent by the candidates), by e-mail to pgrad@physics.uoc.gr no later than 15 July 2024. Additional information, such as other degrees, scholarships, performance in exams (e.g. GRE, TOEFL) or academic competitions (Mathematics, Physics Competitions, etc.) can be provided at the candidate's discretion.

The maximum number of admissions to the Master's Program "Advanced Physics" is twenty (20). Also, the maximum number of admissions to the Master's Program "Photonics and Nanoelectronics" is twenty (20).

The Master's Program "Advanced Physics" and "Photonics and Nanoelectronics" of the Department of Physics have no tuition fees.

The candidates will be informed by the Graduate Studies Secretariat on the outcome of the evaluation of applications, in early August 2024.
