For the Spring 2022 semester, the University of Nicosia announces the opening of a number positions for admission to the Doctorate (PhD) in Electrical Engineering.

Language: All aspects of the programme are conducted in English or Greek (application submission, individual interviews, and programme study)

The application must be submitted only via the online procedure available at: https://www.unic.ac.cy/apply.

The doctorate degree is intended for applicants who have excelled during their undergraduate and/or graduate studies, have a strong motivation and enthusiasm towards technological research and innovation, and are inclined to work in the academic domain or a research-intensive environment in the industry.

The specific aims of the programme are to:

  • Forster students’ skills and understanding in the processes and technologies involved in electrical and computer engineering disciplines.
  • Use mathematics, basic science, and engineering techniques to solve problems related to electrical and computer systems engineering.
  • Help students gain a profound understanding of advanced engineering topics such as telecommunications and networks, signal and image processing, microwave engineering, antenna technology and wave propagation, power system analysis and design, renewable energy technologies, and computer systems.
  • The academic staff of the department is dedicated to work closely with students to solve current engineering problems thereby producing new knowledge and results.
  • Educate students on how to disseminate research findings in scientific and engineering journals and conferences.

The research output and the PhD Thesis must be written in English.

Admission Requirements and Procedures

Eligible candidates should hold a recognised Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field in Pure Sciences (e.g. Mathematics, Physics). Students are admitted both in the Fall and Spring semesters.

  • Completed application form;
  • A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV);
  • Certified true copy of the applicant’s qualifications/degree(s);
  • Original or certified true copy of transcript(s);
  • Two reference letters;
  • Research proposal detailing the suggested research topic and Title; Literature review; (brief); Problem definition; Aims and objectives; Research methodology Expected output; Time frame for completion; References; max. 4 pages;
  • Research work and published articles (if any);
  • Personal interview (in person or through teleconferencing).
  • English Language Proficiency: TOEFL (paper-based test 550, computer-based test 213) or IELTS 6.5. For students who graduated from an English-speaking University, English language is not a requirement.
