Call for Applications to the Doctorate (PhD) in Oil, Gas & Energy Engineering | Fall 2023
Subject of the Call
For the Fall 2023 semester, the University of Nicosia announces the opening of several positions for admission to the Doctorate (PhD) in Oil, Gas & Energy Engineering.
School: School of Sciences and Engineering
Duration: 3 years (full-time)
Number of Positions: Up to seven
Selection Criteria: Preselection on the basis of evaluation of qualifications and final selection on the basis of an individual interview— if needed
Application Deadline: 15 July, 2023
Start Date: September 2023
Language: All aspects of the programme are conducted in English or Greek (application submission, individual interviews, and programme study)

The doctorate degree is intended for applicants who have excelled during their undergraduate and/or graduate studies, have a strong motivation and enthusiasm towards technological research and innovation, and are inclined to work in the academic domain or a research intensive environment in the industry.
The specific aims of the programme are to:
- Forster students’ skills and understanding in the processes and technologies involved in exploration, development, production, refining and safe transport of oil and gas.
- Help students gain a profound understanding of petroleum and energy systems by conducting research on geology, petroleum systems, reservoir engineering, drilling engineering, renewable energy, wave harvesting, photovoltaics, carbon capture, etc.
- Use mathematics, basic science, and engineering techniques to solve problems related to oil and natural gas extraction and energy.
- Educate students on how to disseminate research findings in scientific and engineering journals and conferences.

Admission Requirements and Procedures
Eligible candidates should hold a recognized Master’s degree in Engineering, the Geosciences, Geophysics, Mechanical/Marine Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related subject in Pure Sciences (e.g., Mathematics, Physics). Students are admitted both in the Fall and Spring semesters.

- Personal interview (in person or through teleconferencing).
- English Language Proficiency: TOEFL (paper-based test 550, computer-based test 213) or IELTS 6.5. For students who graduated from an English-speaking University, English language is not a requirement.
